Robin Hood Airport celebrates its third birthday Robin Hood Airport has handled 2.9 million passengers since opening its doors three years ago and has seen a 13% increase in passengers over the past 12 months alone. Over the past three years, Peel has invested over £100 million to develop the former RAF Finningley into the UK’s newest airport with additional funding through the European Regional Development Fund with support from Renaissance South Yorkshire and the Government Office for Yorkshire and The Humber. This has given millions of the region’s passengers the opportunity to fly from a local convenient airport and Peel is confident that the airport will continue to grow. “The Airport is a tremendous asset for the region and the local economy," said Nick Smillie, Peel Airports Aviation Sales Director, who is based at Robin Hood Airport Doncaster Sheffield. "As an international gateway, it is key to attracting inward investment and tourism growth, as well as serving the needs of business and leisure travellers from the region. "To think that in just three years the airport has gone from nothing to handling over one million passengers per year is a tremendous achievement. There are many airports across the UK that have been around for considerably longer than Robin Hood Airport Doncaster Sheffield, and have still yet to reach such a milestone. Our objective now is to build on this success by delivering further growth, including more routes to popular international destinations.” |
